Understanding Server Rules in Evony: The King's Return

One of the most important aspects of playing Evony: The King's Return is understanding the rules that govern your server. While server rules can vary from one server to another, they generally establish guidelines to promote fair play and help players grow strategically. As a new or experienced player, knowing these rules is crucial for both survival and success. This guide explains the various server rules that are used and provides a recommended set of server rules for a balanced, fair Evony server where all get to enjoy the game and grow.

Why Do Servers Have Rules?

Evony servers are made up of thousands of players, each with their own goals and strategies. To create a balanced environment, server rules are often established, either by strong alliances or through community agreements. These rules aim to prevent chaos and promote organized gameplay, giving all players a fair chance to build their cities and armies without constant fear of attack.

Variability in Server Rules

It’s important to note that server rules can differ significantly. While some servers adopt strict regulations, others might be more relaxed. However, there are common practices found across many servers:

  • Non-Aggression Pact (NAP): One of the most widespread agreements, a NAP is a truce among server members that limits or forbids attacks on other players outside of designated war times or events.
  • Event-Specific Rules: Some servers have specific rules for events like Kill Events (KE) to ensure fair competition and organized combat.
  • Resource Tile Etiquette: Many servers have guidelines about attacking players on resource tiles, often prohibiting such attacks to allow fair gathering.

The Importance of NAP (Non-Aggression Pact)

The best servers often use a NAP to create an environment where all players can grow. By limiting aggressive actions, especially in the early stages of server development, a NAP encourages players to focus on building their cities, training troops, and working collaboratively with their alliances.

Pros of Having a NAP

  • Stability and Growth: A NAP ensures that players have the stability to focus on city and troop development without constant attacks.
  • Stronger Alliances: With fewer internal conflicts, alliances can work together to strengthen the server as a whole, preparing for external threats like Server vs. Server (SvS) events.
  • Resource Optimization: Players can farm and gather resources more efficiently, knowing they are protected from random attacks.

Cons of Having a NAP

  • Limited Combat Experience: New players may miss out on gaining valuable combat experience if they are not engaging in battles regularly.
  • Stagnation: Without the threat of attacks, some players might become complacent, leading to a less competitive environment.
  • Enforcement Challenges: Ensuring everyone follows the NAP can be difficult, especially with rogue players or alliances that refuse to cooperate.

Alternative Approaches to Server Rules

While a NAP is common, some servers adopt different strategies:

  • Open War Servers: These servers have fewer rules, creating a more competitive and aggressive environment. This can be exciting but also stressful for players who prefer a more strategic, long-term approach.
  • Limited War Agreements: Some servers have specific windows of time when war is allowed, such as during Kill Events (KE). Outside these periods, a NAP might still be in effect.

Conclusion

Understanding the rules of your server is essential for successful gameplay in Evony: The King’s Return. Whether your server uses a NAP or embraces open combat, adapting your strategy to these rules can make a huge difference in your experience and growth. We will now take a look at a set of server rules based on the example used by Enthrallio Alliance during one of their R5's reign as Server King

Server Rules to Ensure Fair Play and Fun for All Evony Players

These rules are designed to make your time on the Evony server fair and enjoyable. Please take the time to read and adhere to them, as they will help you grow, connect with others, and be part of a vibrant community.

NAP (Non-Aggression Pact) Rules

The NAP is active at all times, except during the Kill Event (KE), which occurs during the Monarch competition when it reaches 5/5. During the NAP, the following rules apply:

  1. DO NOT attack cities that belong to any Alliance. You may attack players without an Alliance. Alliance members are identified by an abbreviation before their name, e.g., [ENT] M O R T.
  2. DO NOT attack Sub Cities, tiles, or resource points such as Farms, Quarries, etc. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  3. DO NOT attack relics
  4. DO NOT ENTER relics that you OR one of your alliance did not create. NO EXCEPTIONS. When you create a relic, it is recommended to take a screen shot and share its location on your alliance chat so that all know it is yours.

KE (Kill Event) Rules

The KE rules come into effect during period 5/5 of the Monarch event. If you do not want to participate in KE, please use a bubble. During KE, the following rules apply:

  1. You can attack cities belonging to any Alliance.
  2. You can attack players without an Alliance.
  3. DO NOT attack Sub Cities, tiles, or resource points such as Farms, Quarries, etc. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  4. DO NOT complain if your city is attacked during KE. Not using a bubble means you are participating in KE—no exceptions or excuses. If you don’t want to lose power, troops, or resources, use a bubble.
  5. DO NOT complain if you lose after attacking someone during KE. Participation in KE comes with the risk of losing everything. If you lose, understand that it's part of the event.

SvS (Server Versus Server) Rules

Server vs. Server (SvS) events are a critical time for the server to unite and defend against enemy attacks. To ensure we don’t give away unnecessary points and to maximize our chances of success, the following rules apply:

  1. Stay Bubbled: All players must keep their cities bubbled (under a truce) at all times during SvS. Unbubbled cities are easy targets and provide points to the enemy server.
  2. No Using Relics, Resource Spots, or Tiles: Do not use relics or gather resources from tiles (farms, quarries, etc.) during SvS. These activities make you vulnerable to attacks and can lead to significant point losses for our server.
  3. Purge Before SvS: A server purge is conducted before SvS to remove inactive or unresponsive players. The goal is to minimize the risk of giving easy points to the enemy, especially if they use tools like iScout, which provide detailed information about our players. Participating in the purge helps protect the server and ensures that only active players remain.

Consequences for Breaking KE, NAP, or SvS Rules

New players may make mistakes. If you are attacked in violation of the rules, try to resolve the situation calmly and constructively, as helping players learn benefits the server in the long run.

If a rule is broken, the following steps should be taken:

  1. Message the player who broke the rule.
  2. Message the leader of the Alliance the offending player belongs to.
  3. If no response is received, resend the message and post in GC (Global Chat) stating you are awaiting a response.
  4. If a response is received, aim to resolve the issue through compensation (healing/replacing troops, speedups, etc.) from the offender or their Alliance leader.
  5. If no response is received after a reasonable time (e.g., 15 minutes for recent attacks, up to 8 hours for older ones), escalate the issue to your R4/R5. They will decide whether to allow more time or post a public message in GC.
  6. The Server King or an R4 from the Server King's Alliance will review the situation and take one of the following actions:
    1. Warning: The offending player and their Alliance receive a warning.
    2. Impaired: The offending player will be issued an "Underclass" title, this will reduce certain abilities in the game until removed.
    3. KOS (Kill on Sight): The player is declared KOS, meaning they and their Alliance members (if not booted) can be attacked freely. A KOS status remains until lifted by the Server King or their R4.

Server Respect and Etiquette

Evony is a game, and games should be fun. Like all PvP games, there will be moments of frustration. If you find yourself getting angry or upset, log off, cool down, and remember it's just a game. Bringing aggression or breaking the rules will have consequences. Always aim to:

  • Respect Other Players: Offensive behavior, harassment, and bullying are strictly prohibited. Treat all players with respect, both in-game and in communication channels.
  • Maintain a Positive Environment: Help create a welcoming and competitive space where players can enjoy the game without fear of unfair play or hostility.

By following these rules, you contribute to a balanced and enjoyable server experience, allowing everyone to thrive and compete fairly in Evony.
